An apprenticeship in woodworking works alongside maths and science to bring context to real work and relevance to what the students study. They learn how to use tools and build things with their hands.
A structured program will let students test their inclinations toward possible careers in engineering, or creative fields such as design and architecture.
An apprenticeship offers students the opportunity to build important life skills. Studies have shown that students who are shy or reserved excel in creative pursuits as it involves using their right brain skills of visualisation and drawing. They are more at ease interacting with like-minded creative people in a smaller group setting, rather be overwhelmed in large groups. They will develop their problem-solving skills, craftsmanship and overall dexterity.
In a short period of 3 months, the student will learn a whole lot of hand tool skills in addition to general knowledge of home repair tools and techniques. The students will be taught how to use a number of hands tools safely and properly by themselves. Each student will make 2-3 items using the skills learnt and take home.
